Text Box: EMERGENCY RESPONSE

Nur Foundation was one of the first organisations to reach Mansehra District of NWFP following the October 8th Earthquake tragedy. In collaboration with its sister concern, the Fatima Memorial System (Lahore), Nur Foundation provided medical aid, food and shelter to the affected.

With a team of over 80 health professionals stationed at Combined Military Hospital Abbottabad, Nur Foundation and Fatima Memorial System (FMS) linked-up with the major hospitals of Abbottabad and Mansehra and attended to thousands of survivors. When the flow of patients surpassed the capacity of wards, Nur Foundation and FMS constructed an 80 x 30 ft. shelter to accommodate the overflow of patients and organized a medical supplies store at CMH Abbottabad. Meanwhile a Rescuer team was busy in Balakot to provide first aid to survivors.
Text Box: HEALTH SERVICES AT JARED, KAGHAN VALLEY

A long term facility set up Nur Foundation’s sister concern, Fatima Memorial System

Jared is the largest village of Kaghan Valley and had lost one fourth of its residents and almost all its houses, in the earthquake. The devastation of Jared ranks next to that of Balakot. The access to Jared following the earthquake was extremely difficult because of massive land slides and destruction of bridges.

The nearest health care services, for the residents of Jared, are miles away. Rains, snow and land slides cut the entire population of Kaghan and Naran from rest of the province. The Fatima Memorial System, a sister concern of Nur Foundation, decided to take the challenge of establishing a 24 hours functional hospital in Jared. The initial funding was provided by Asia Foundation through the recommendations of Pakistan Centre of Philanthropy (PCP).

The aim was to set up family-physician centered health facility with outreach through community health workers. The infrastructure which includes the Health Centre building, residence for Medical Officers and the necessary equipment and fixtures has been established. Services of two medical officers are available to the project along with back-up from the tertiary care teaching Fatima Memorial Hospital (FMH). This centre will be completing its successful first year on August 14, 2007.
