Home à IDPs Relief Operation

Pakistan faced one of its worst humanitarian emergencies as millions of people were displaced from their homes due to the ongoing military operation in parts of Khyber Pukhtoonkhuwa . Thousands of our citizens were in distress, and did not have a roof over their heads, did not have food, access to clean drinking water or access to any healthcare facilities. NUR Foundation and its collaborating partners Fatima Memorial Hospital and Jahanara Memorial Trust set up a relief camp in Mardan to provide immediate medical and general relief to IDPs in the area.

The primary focus of the relief operation was on providing primary health care, with the approach that medical care was be supplemented by other relief items such as food, clothing, cooking utensils etc based on ground realities and felt need in the camp. Based on our relief and rehabilitation work experience from the 2005 Earthquake in NWFP and the 2007 Flood Experience in Baluchistan, we employed an on the ground strategy which optimized service delivery and made efficient allocation of resources based on community need.

Status Update on Relief Work by NUR FOUNDATION and Fatima Memorial System

There was a massive displacement of over 1 million people of, Khyber Pukhtoonkhuwa and it was the need of the hour that we support them.

Initially FMS-NUR and Jahanara Memorial Trust sent a group of doctors, male nurses and support staff to Mardan, where arrangements were made to provide primary health care facilities at one of the existing relief camps.

We worked via these schools in Mardan city, where the schools were converted into temporary camps for IDPs:

  • Govt. Centenial High School No. 3, Mardan

  • Guli Bagh School, Mardan

  • Govt. High School Nasir Kallay, Mardan

  • Govt. Primary Gujjar Gorhi, Mardan

  • Govt. Centenial High School, Bank Road, Mardan

  • Basic Health Centre, Bab Bane

  • Govt. School No. 1 to 6, Kaskorona

  • Girls High School, Shah Dhand

After the first group’s visit, further need assessment was made and the need for female staff was assessed, and female staff also assigned.
